UPDATE 12/26/2009:  Claire's liver function is now normal with the help of some liver supplements!  Also I think she is only a little deaf and very selectively deaf.  She sure can hear the rustle of the dog food bag and any treat bags!

UPDATE: Claire had her teeth cleaned and has just finished the antibiotics.  She is in fine spirits!  She is such a sweet dog.

She loves going outside on a leash and is most interested in all the wildlife around here and very interested in meeting the horses that live across the road.  I have to keep her on the leash because I don't have a fenced yard and she can't hear me call her to come.  She sits and shakes paw with hand signals.  I'm sure she can learn other commands but haven't really worked on it.  Her "good girl" hand signal is a thumbs up!  She also wags her tail if I clap my hands so perhaps that was used as the "good girl" signal in the past.

She is really an indoor dog and loves to laze on her dog bed.  She loves children and thinks that everyone who comes here are just a bunch of suckers who came to pet her and pay attention to her!

It took her over a month to let her guard down and bond with me so her furever family will have to have a little patience with her to get used to a new routine and new people.

UPDATE: Claire is having some tests run to find out why her liver function is a bit high. She's on antibiotics right now, hopefully they will clear her problem up!

After having Claire Bear her for over a week I've come to the conclusion that she is almost deaf. she hears very high pitched sounds. Because of this she follows me everywhere, I think she likes to keep me in sight.

She continues to be a very friendly calm girl. She isn't startled if I come up to her while she's sleeping she just opens her eyes to see who's there. I think Claire would do best in a home with a fence since if she wandered off she would be unlikely to hear your calls.
-----------------------------------------------
Hi my name is Claire Bear and I just came into rescue. I'm so glad to be out of that shelter- those dogs are far too noisy for such a delicate girl. I'm extremely laid back and inquisitive and I walk very nicely on a leash.

I'll be going into the vet soon to get spayed so I won't be able to go to my forever home for a couple weeks. My foster mom will add more info once I get settled in, until then feel free to email her: shibamarie@yahoo.com - Bye for now!

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids

Special Needs: Deaf

Whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state.

If I'm not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on me, you will have to make special arrangements so ERU can get me to you safely (for example, flying me to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive me to you). Note: We may ask that you to make a donation to cover transport costs if the distance is great and we have trouble finding transport drivers.

There is an adoption fee required; and, please be aware, Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs.

Eskie Rescuers United American Eskimo Dog Rescue, Inc. is an IRS-approved 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Please click the donation button below to make a tax-deductible donation through PayPal and help make a difference to even one American Eskimo dog!
