Learn more about the American Eskimo Dog.
Howdy, my name is Cisco, but sometimes I'm known as "The Cisco Kid." I'm a miniature-sized American Eskimo male between the ages of 1 and 3 years old, and I weigh about 18 pounds. As you might be able to tell by my pictures, I'm a "high energy" guy! I was at an animal shelter where the staff just fell in love with me because I'm so sweet and charming.
I'm neutered, current on all my vaccinations, heartworm negative and on heartworm, flea and tick prevention. I'm leash-trained for the most part, but I do pull on the leash when out walking--the world out there is so neat and exciting, and sometimes I can't contain myself trying to explore everyone and everything I see! I'm crate-trained, which is a good thing, because I've been spending a lot of "time out" breaks in my crate when I get too rambunctious with my foster brothers. I love to play with people and with other dogs, but sometimes my playfulness with other dogs can get too carried away. My foster mommy thinks I would do best in a home as an only pet, and without small kids who might feel intimidated when I try to assert my dominance. I really need to be with a family that understands the Eskie breed and that can be firm (but kind) with me and make me understand that THEY are alpha in the house, not me. I must have belonged to someone at some point, because I know some basic commands, and I know that a tennis ball needs to come BACK to the person who threw it! That's right, I know how to play fetch! (I may not know what the word "fetch" means, but I do love the concept.) Ummm, one thing you should know...I have the attention span of a gnat, so if you have a job for me to do to keep me occupied, or you can give me a really good workout on a regular basis, then I could become your bestest friend! And I really like to run, so a home with a fenced-in yard would be just ideal for me. I'm a terrific little guy who needs an owner who will take the time to work and play with me and interact with me a lot. If you can help me channel my excess energy, I will pay you back with every ounce of love I have in my little body! I'm waiting so eagerly for my new forever family. Won't you hurry and fill out an application for me? I promise you won't regret it! If you're interested in me and would like more information, please contact Deborah at: deborah@eskierescuersunited.org. Better yet, you can go to our web site at: www.eskierescuersunited.org and fill out an adoption application for me! There is an adoption fee required, and whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state. I'm in Rockford, IL with my foster mommy, Deborah. To get me to you, we can do what's called an "Eskie Railroad," which is a group of volunteer drivers who will each drive a certain portion of the transport. (We always ask that you, as the adopter, help out by taking the final leg.) If I'm not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on me, you may have to make special arrangements so ERU can get me to you safely (for example, flying me to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive me to you). Also, please be aware that Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs.
