Hi, my name is Copper and I am ready for my fur-ever home! I am a 1 year old Mini Eskie.

My mom had to give me up because I barked a lot when she wasn't home and the neighbors in our apartment home didn't like that. I was taken to a shelter in Idaho where they were going to make me sleep forever because I was so scared and nervous I wouldn't come up to people when they came to see me. They didn't understand that really wasn't me I just didn't like that place.

My foster mom came and got me, she drove for 6 hours there and 6 hours back to make sure I was safe. As soon as I was out of that place I warmed right up to her and her friend. I sat in her friends lap most of the way to my foster home in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Since I've been here for the last couple of weeks I have made great friends with my 3 foster brothers, they are Eskies too! We love to play and can run around for hours in the yard chasing each other, I sometimes wear out my older brothers. I have lots of energy and can't get enough attention.

I am a little shy and cautious when I first meet new people but I warm up pretty quickly and will be your friend in no time. I am house trained and will sometimes sit when you tell me too.

I was really skinny when my foster mom picked me up but I have fattened up to a healthy weight since I've been here, my doctor says I am a healthy boy.
My foster mom calls me a heel nipper, I love to follow her around the house and sometimes she just walks to slow and I step on her heels!

I would really like to sleep in the bed with my foster mom but she says that no dogs on the bed, the three cats are too many for her full bed as it is and 4 dogs would leave no room for her and she insists she is not sleeping on the couch.

I get along great with other dogs, and ok with the cats, for the most part I just don't mess with the felines here, they are kinda mean and don't seem like they want to play with me. Sometimes though one of them will whack at my tail so I think he's playing and he runs away from me I will chase him but I wouldn't hurt them I just want to play.

I am pretty good with older kids that just like to pet and love me, kids under 5 I am not so sure about, they pull on my tail and fur and it hurts so I bark at them to let them know it hurts and that scares them and sometimes they cry, I don't mean to make them cry but ouch!
My foster mom thinks I would do good with a family that has other dogs and it's ok if they have older children. I should really have a fenced yard to play in as I have lots of energy and love to run and when it snows I love rolling around in it. I should be an indoor dog though, I need to be around my family as much as possible so I can maximize my belly scratching time.

My foster mom feels I should only be transported on the ground flying would be too stressful for me.

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids

Special Needs: Ground transport only.

Whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state.

If I'm not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on me, you will have to make special arrangements so ERU can get me to you safely (for example, flying me to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive me to you). Note: We may ask that you to make a donation to cover transport costs if the distance is great and we have trouble finding transport drivers.

There is an adoption fee required; and, please be aware, Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs.

Eskie Rescuers United American Eskimo Dog Rescue, Inc. is an IRS-approved 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Please click the donation button below to make a tax-deductible donation through PayPal and help make a difference to even one American Eskimo dog!
