Joy is a 13-year old small standard American Eskimo who lost her home when her family fell on hard times. A delightful companion, Joy enjoys going for walks and car rides, or just napping in her favorite spot on the loveseat.  She has impeccable housemanners and will let you know when she needs to relieve herself.  Joy tends to be a quiet dog and prefers to communicate by looks and taps from her front paws rather than barking.

Most of the time you would never take Joy for a 13-year old dog.  Overall she is in good health.  Joy suffers from hypothyroidism, causing her to be overweight and have thinning hair on her shoulders.  She will need to be on soloxine, an inexpensive medication, to treat her thyroid condition for the remainder of her life.  Like many older dogs Joy has a bit of arthitis in her hips.  She is on glucosamine supplements and a diet and light exercise program to help her hips.  Joy returns to the vet for a dental and thyroid check in late-August.

The ideal home for Joy would be a home with a a single person or couple with no young children. Joy likes both men and women but seems to bond with and prefer women.  Loud noises and stern voices make her nervous.  Joy can be sensitive having her hips touched and doesn't like to be picked up (though she does appreciates a little boost into the car or onto the sofa). She's not a big fan of being brushed, her foster mom is working on that. Joy gets along with calm, older dogs like herself.  We are unsure about cats.

Joy is being fostered in CT and will be available for adoption after August 25, 2010.  For more information please contact her foster mom, Joanne, at jphelan120@att.net.

Whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state.

If I'm not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on me, you will have to make special arrangements so ERU can get me to you safely (for example, flying me to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive me to you). Note: We may ask that you to make a donation to cover transport costs if the distance is great and we have trouble finding transport drivers.

There is an adoption fee required; and, please be aware, Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs.

Eskie Rescuers United American Eskimo Dog Rescue, Inc. is an IRS-approved 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Please click the donation button below to make a tax-deductible donation through PayPal and help make a difference to even one American Eskimo dog!
