Hi my name is Jessie and I am 15 years old as of last month and have been given another chance on life. Just a couple of weeks ago my owner had me into the vets to “put me to sleep” permanently! He just could not do it. I mean he and his wife rescued me when I was only 11 months old from an abusive owner and I was their baby for 10 years. Then a son was added and I accepted that for the most part because he left me alone. Then a daughter came along and she is a bit more in my face. I have never been good around her in fact all small children scare me and make me very nervous. I understand that is exactly what happens with a lot of American Eskimos. My parents have tried to keep us apart gating us in separate areas of the house but it is just getting too difficult.

I have bitten her when she pulled a chunk of fur out of me and another time when she crawled up to my food bowl. I really need a quiet home with no little children.

As you can see by my picture I am shaped and sized like an Eskie but am what is referred to as a German Mittel Spitz and I am not as white as the rest of dogs on these pages! In fact the closest I can come is a gray color, which is of course do to my age. And let me tell you I have earned everyone of those gray hairs!

Due to my age I do sleep a lot but am completely house trained, sleep in my kennel (they don’t lock me in it I just sleep there) and occasionally have some indigestion and throw up. I eat twice a day Kibbles and Bits for Seniors. And LOVE an occasional pizza crust! I am completely housetrained as well. Car rides? Well as long as I have an empty stomach otherwise I tend to throw-up.

I have not been around a lot of other dogs but recently had a young cocker spaniel staying here for some unearthly reason. I did growl and snap at him and he took me up on it. Decided I was too old for such rough stuff and kept my distance the rest of the visit. Usually meeting other dogs I try to control and be the “alpha” by growling and showing my teeth maybe after my experience with the cocker that is not such a good idea.

I have a double fur coat just like these white guys all around me and the same kind of maintenance is needed. I do get my outer coat cut every 2-3 months and not too short…except maybe around the butt and toes. I do get muzzled when I am groomed in fact make sure you do especially when clipping my toenails.

My parents used to brush my teeth all the time but that has not happened lately. I have had them professionally cleaned a couple of times as well.

I know Sit, Down, Heel and Stay. I also do a great trick where you put a treat on my nose and I will look at you until you say OK and then I will eat it. I can also Sit Pretty. I love to give kisses as well.

I would be a great companion for an older person or couple. Please contact my Foster Mom Roxanne at jdr@frontiernet.net about me. I really need a home to live out my senior years.

Is Not Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

Whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state.

If I'm not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on me, you will have to make special arrangements so ERU can get me to you safely (for example, flying me to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive me to you). Note: We may ask that you to make a donation to cover transport costs if the distance is great and we have trouble finding transport drivers.

There is an adoption fee required; and, please be aware, Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs.

Eskie Rescuers United American Eskimo Dog Rescue, Inc. is an IRS-approved 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Please click the donation button below to make a tax-deductible donation through PayPal and help make a difference to even one American Eskimo dog!
