At less than 2-years old, Denver is just a goofy puppy! He has one mission in life: to play. P-L-A-Y. Play! Play!! Play!!. Within an hour of arriving at his foster home, he'd even managed to convince a couple of the senior dogs in residence to chase him around the backyard. The next morning, he wanted to do it all over again, but the old fogeys weren't interested in playing at that time, so, he happily raced around on his own, zigging and zagging, hoping that eventually one of them would join in. Since his arrival, he and another foster dog became good buddies, and they would spend time every evening racing around the backyard, chasing one another, wrestling with each other, etc., but his buddy got adopted recently and now Denver has no one to play with again.

Denver is neutered, HW negative & utd on shots. He is housetrained and crate trained. He rides great in a car. He knows sit, but that's the extent of his vocabulary -- ya can't blame him that no one has taken the time to teach him anything more than that! He would greatly benefit from going to an obedience class, which would be a wonderful way for him and his new family to bond! He is mostly good with other dogs --he would love to have another young dog to play with in his new home, or failing that, another nearby "dog friend" with whom he can get together for play dates; however, he can get overstimulated easily (he's working on it!), so he'd do best in a household with a maximum of only one other dog, preferably a female or a more laid-back male as he does not do well with more assertive males. We haven't seen him with cats, but based on his energy level & the way he tries to get anything that moves to play with him, we think he'd probably annoy cats too much to put him in a home with cats.

His previous owners told the shelter that he was a purebred Samoyed when they turned him in, but we think he’s actually an American Eskimo mixed with some sort of spaniel.  He’s about 18-19” at the shoulder & weighs about 50 lbs.  The shelter thought he was food aggressive, but we have not found that to be the case at all -- even in the early days in foster, he had no issues when his foster mom took food away from him or pulled his food bowl back if he started to dive in before she'd even managed to put it down for him, so we think that the issue was more one of being in a shelter environment than his actually being food aggressive. Our best guess is that what the shelter saw wasn't aggression, but rather pent up energy due to being confined in a kennel run mixed with enthusiasm at getting human contact, and that his intentions were misinterpreted.  In his foster home, he's been very gentle when taking food or treats, and has learned to sit before being fed & to wait to be released before he can start eating, and has had no issues with these things. To be safe, we're saying he can't go to a home with small children, but kids 10 and up should be fine....Like most teenagers, he can be impulsive, but his foster mom is working with him and he's gaining more self control. He's doing well in the learning process, but will need his new home to continue with it to help him really solidify the skills & start generalizing them to even more situations.

Mostly, Denver needs an active person/family who is willing to integrate him into their lives & activities. If anyone is looking for a running partner, or a playmate for their current dog, or a dog to play fetch with, or an agility dog or the like, then Denver would be a great match for you! He may still be a little rough around the edges at the moment, but invest a little time & training in him, and you'll be the lucky owner who found the diamond in the rough! :-)
