FRISCO must go to an experienced American Eskimo Dog home.  No children.  Frisco will be a wonderful companion for the person who is a calm Alpha type and will train Frisco where he stands in the pack.  He never learned this. This boy is smart and affectionate yet sneaky an immature about trying to get his way.

Frisco was surrended to a New York shelter after the owner moved to a "No Dogs" apartment.  For six months the owner had been trying to find Frisco a home so basic obedience training was not addressed.  Frisco is a great Eskie but was allowed to conjole and throw hissy fits to get his way.  He was also never trained to not puppy mouth someone's arms or hands so he was grabbing my hand or arm when frustrated.  It's not a bite but it's his way to show he isn't happy.  Frisco doesn't break the skin.  He pretty much pushed for what he wanted and no one pushed back.

Frisco has been with me two weeks so I could check his quirks and habits.  On the plus side he generally likes everyone he meets.  He is also friendly towards other dogs when visiting.  He has never marked in the house.  When taking treats from me he is extremely gentle.  Frisco is way past the puppy destruction stage and only plays with allowed toys.  He is crate trained.  Most of the time he dashes in the crate when I say "bed" but occasionally he's not interested and will sit and balk at minding me.  Frisco also loves leash walks.  Except for trying to catch passing motorcycles he does really well.  Thankfully Frisco is also not afraid of thunderstorms or fireworks.  He likes tummy scratches.

Who's The Boss??  Recently Frisco started challenging my 7 year old alpha male for the top dog spot and it's not going well for him.  Part of this is the instinct to move up in the pack and I believe the other is just him wanting his way.  Frisco is fine with my non-alpha male, my wanna-be-alpha female and second male Eskie foster dog, a puppy.  He listens to me enough now that when I tell him to back off he does.  Since it's a new trait I will watch to see if it is a passing challenge of a few days or a serious challenge.

Frisco has a real hate for toll booth collectors perhaps because they are too close to the car?  He was fine with the stop and go workers at local construction sites.  He should be constrained in the car.  If not he attemtps to work his way into my lap.  When rejected he gets grumpy and wants to keep trying while becoming more frustrated.

As an experienced Eskie owner Frisco's very correctible problems stem from no leadership and training during his puppy days.  We all know if no one is in control the dog will start controlling his world.

CATS:  He has seen mine but with his other needs I haven't really tested him.

More about Frisco of ME

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

Whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state.

If I'm not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on me, you will have to make special arrangements so ERU can get me to you safely (for example, flying me to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive me to you). Note: We may ask that you to make a donation to cover transport costs if the distance is great and we have trouble finding transport drivers.

There is an adoption fee required; and, please be aware, Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs.

Eskie Rescuers United American Eskimo Dog Rescue, Inc. is an IRS-approved 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Please click the donation button below to make a tax-deductible donation through PayPal and help make a difference to even one American Eskimo dog!
