**** Fostered in San Diego, CA *****
This poor guy needs surgery to fix his airway. He was surrendered to us by his owner in the Fall of 2013. His excessive barking nearly got them evicted. Faced with eviction or giving up her dog (which she would never do), she turned to her vet for help. Her vet convinced her that de-barking would allow her to keep her dog and her home. But his debarking surgery did not work. It left Shadow with the ability to bark hoarsly. So the vet performed a second debarking surgery. This one was also not very successful and caused a great deal of scar tissue in his throat. When he gets stressed or excited, his breathing is labored and he turns blue from lack of oxygen. He has been to the ER several times and has to be sedated and given oxygen.
This week Shadow will be evaluated by a specialist to see what options there are for removing the scar tissue in his throat. We will be getting an estimate of how much the repair cost.
