I HAVE AN ADOPTION PENDING! WOO HOO!!! Hey there, everyone! My name is Leo, and I'm a very sweet, VERY playful 12 month old American Eskimo puppy. Just as you would expect with just about any puppy, I'm a happy-go-lucky kind of guy who is still a "work in progress." I just love my toys and playing fetch is so much fun (in a fenced yard), I zoom around and burn off puppy power. I have LOTS of energy, which I use to play, play, PLAY! I love romping with all the eskies here and I am really good with them, but when I went to meet a potential new family, I did not like their 2 other dogs for some reason, maybe because they did not look like me. But I would do well with a younger couple that likes to walk or run, I would keep you company and it would help me burn off some energy. I would also do well in a house without other pets, or maybe just one other dog, but you might have to work on us getting along. You just never know with me if I will like the new doggie or not. Although they don't know much about my previous history, I was most likely abused at some point because when you come at me with a leash I get scared sometimes and will tinkle a little. But if you have a fenced yard, I don't have any trouble, I just zoom right outside and tell me "go potty" Leo. I am proud to say I am completely housetrained, and I do not mark like some boy dogs do. When you leave for work or errands, I would do best in my crate or a very dog safe area. I sometimes get bored and might chew on something I am not supposed to, but when you leave if you put in chewies and dog toys I am the very best boy. Sometimes I think my real name is "No, Leo!," as that's what my foster mommy keeps calling me. :o) I guess that's because she's always trying to get me to settle down and behave! But she says I'm VERY smart and easily trainable. I know the commands "sit" and "off," and I know I could learn a whole lot more stuff if you have the patience to teach me. Taking me to obedience school would probably be a very good idea too. Being a puppy, I'm still in that chewing and "mouthing" stage. We're working on this behavior, but for this reason, it might be best if I were in a home without small children who might get scared if, while I was playing with them, I mouthed them in my playful excitement. I am also working on the rule of "no jumping on people" it is a hard rule, but with consistant training and enforcement I am sure I will learn this rule. Like your typical Eskie, I am a warning barker who will be sure to let you know of any "intruders" to our home. I also tend to be somewhat food protective, because I possibly didn't get enough to eat, either in my previous home or at the shelter where I shared quarters with some larger dogs. I don't go after the food of the other dogs here at my foster home, but I make sure they don't try to take mine away from me either. Can you blame me for that? My humans can get near my food, children would not most likely but the big humans can do what they wish with my food. Even though I'm quite an active fella, I do calm down. I'm a very affectionate boy who loves to be petted by my human. I also enjoy snuggling up close to you and knowing that you love me as much as I love you. I really would like if you let me on your sofa to watch tv at night & snuggle. I would also love to sleep in bed with you, my foster mommy makes me sleep in my crate and that is ok too. I love to follow you around the house, in the kitchen while you cook, under your chair while you work on the computer and I lay just outside the shower door waiting patiently for you to come out. So if you want a sweet, loyal and lovable companion--AND you have enough time to devote to my proper training--then look no further, because I'm right here waiting for you, as patiently as I know how! Whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state. I'm in Palm Beach Gardens, FL with my foster parents, Kim and Jeff. To get me to you, we can do what's called an "Eskie Railroad," which is a group of volunteer drivers who will each drive a certain portion of the transport. (We always ask that you, as the adopter, help out by taking the final leg.) If I'm not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on me, you may have to make special arrangements so ERU can get me to you safely (for example, flying me to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive me to you). There is a $150 adoption fee for me, and please be aware that Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs. Thank you and WOOF!
