Learn more about the American Eskimo Dog.
Hi! My name is Mesha Mae Patience, but you can call me Mesha for short. I'm a 10-year old standard-sized American Eskimo female who weighs 30 pounds. I am very pretty too, as you can see from my pictures. I would make a great companion for an older person, and I am eligible to be adopted for a lower fee through Eskie Rescuers United's "New Leash on Life" Senior program. (To find out more about this program, please go to: Senior Eskies and Senior Humans.) I'm spayed, current on all my vaccinations, heartworm negative and on heartworm prevention. I love to go for walks on the leash outside and I start barking like crazy when my foster mommy puts her shoes and socks on, because I know what that means?we're going for a walk! :o) I whimper and whine while riding in the car, but putting me in my crate seems to help when we have to take those car rides. (The crate also helps during scary thunderstorms!) I'm housebroken and will let you know if I have to go potty. I will also let you know if someone is at the door or if I'm hungry, but mostly I am quiet and very content, though I might emit a low growl at you at first. That passes quickly once I get to know you, however. I get along well with cats and other dogs, and I just love my foster mommy's 10-month old son--I like to give him lots of Eskie kisses! :o) My foster mom says I am gentle, obedient, affectionate and intelligent (and I am!!!). I know some commands, like "sit" and "shake," and I may know others, but right now I'm keeping that info under my hat! HeHe! I love to follow my foster mom around the house, because you never know when she is going to turn around and give me a belly rub. You can never get enough of that good stuff! I don't jump on the furniture, but I will lie at the foot of your bed if you want me to. My foster mommy says I'm just an awesome dog. She wasn't feeling well the day after I came here and so she went to bed to try to get better. I was put in a crate in her room, but I started whining, so my foster daddy let me out, thinking I needed to go potty. Instead, as soon as he opened the crate, I flew up on the bed and laid my head on my foster mommy's chest to comfort her and help her get better! See how smart and intuitive I am?! I'm soft and fluffy and very sweet! Even my Eskie foster sister, Roxy, approves of me, so I must be pretty special! My foster mommy says whoever adopts me is going to be super lucky--wouldn't you like that to be you? Won't you make me a part of your family so I can show you just how affectionate I am? I'm a real find, so don't let me get away! If you're interested in me and would like more information, please contact Wanda at: wanda@eskierescuersunited.org or feel free to e-mail my foster mommy and daddy directly at: tiffany@eskierescuersunited.org. You can also go to our web site at: www.eskierescuersunited.org and fill out an adoption application for me. There is an adoption fee required, and whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state. I'm in Milton, WI with my foster mommy and daddy, Tiffany and Andy. To get me to you, we can do what's called an "Eskie Railroad," which is a group of volunteer drivers who will each drive a certain portion of the transport. (We always ask that you, as the adopter, help out by taking the final leg.) If I'm not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on me, you may have to make special arrangements so ERU can get me to you safely (for example, flying me to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive me to you). Also, please be aware that Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs. Thank you and WOOF! Mesha!
