ADOPTED ON APRIL 3, 2006
Hi, my name is Anastasia, or Ana for short! I'm a 23-pound standard-sized American Eskimo female who is in the 10- to 14-year old range. (I was picked up as a stray in New York, so no one knows anything about my previous history.) I'm a VERY good girl with a gorgeous fur coat! I'm spayed, current on all my vaccinations, heartworm negative and on heartworm, flea and tick prevention. I'm also housebroken for the most part. This means I will do my business when you take me out, but if you wait too long to do so, then I have little accidents. (I DO get through the night without any mishaps, but you'd better take me out first thing when I wake up!) I do have this harmless little obsessive-compulsive disorder, but don't let that fancy terminology scare you! (Heck, in this day and age, who CAN'T boast of one OCD or another? LOL) Mine takes the form of pacing, either along the fence when I'm outside or in circles when inside. (I tend to pace more if I think my foster mommy isn't around.) The vets speculate that I was probably an outdoor dog who was kept tied up all my life and all I could do was pace back and forth, so it's become a learned behavior for me. See, I told you it was harmless! :o) I'm a very healthy gal, but there are a couple other things you need to know about me. One is that I'm deaf, so you'll need to watch me carefully when we're outside. Sometimes I like to wander off, so you can't call me to come back to you, because I won't hear you. (But if you keep me on a leash when we go walking, then of course that won't be a problem!) I don't know hand signals, but you know, we Eskies are awfully smart, so maybe you could help me learn some, and we can prove that old dogs CAN learn new tricks! And though I may be deaf I will bark when I think you're getting my dinner ready (or sometimes when you are having your dinner, because I'm hoping you'll share with me!). The other thing is that I only have 2 teeth left in my mouth, but that doesn't stop me from eating dry food or enjoying my dog biscuit treats! Yummy! Even though my eyes are a bit cloudy, I have excellent vision. One evening my foster mommy watched me while I chased a bug through the grass! You just put that eye chart in front of me and I'll read you every line! TeeHee! I get along well with other dogs and cats--in fact, I'm quite passive. I'm not the "I-have-to-follow-you-around-the-house-wherever-you-go" kind of girl, though sometimes I do like to follow my foster mommy around to see what she's up to. I'm really more the independent type who likes to do my own thing. I will play with stuffed toys on occasion, but usually I'm either sleeping or pacing--until you get me around water, that is. That's when I LOVE to play! My foster mommy has a child's pool that I love to stand in. (The water feels so cool on hot summer days!) I will also paw at my water bowl until all the water is out of it, so those self-watering dishes aren't a good idea around me, unless you want me to help you wash your floors all the time! HeHe! My foster mommy says I need a good INDOOR home for my remaining years, and that I need to be showered with all the love I never got in my previous life. She has seen lots of positive changes in me since I've been here and she thinks I will get even better with some love and kindness and patience from my new forever family. I'm such a very sweet girl, and I can't wait to find a home to call my own. Won't you adopt me and give me a chance at a wonderful new life? I think I deserve it! I would make a great companion for an older person, and I am eligible to be adopted for a lower fee through Eskie Rescuers United's "New Leash on Life" Senior program. (To find out more about this program, please go to: Senior Eskies and Senior Humans.) If you're interested in me and would like more information, please contact Wanda at: wanda@eskierescuersunited.org or feel free to e-mail my foster mommy directly at: Justus4250@aol.com. You can also go to our web site at: www.eskierescuersunited.org and fill out an adoption application for me. There is an adoption fee required, and whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state. I'm in Carlisle, PA with my foster mommy, Gina. To get me to you, we can do what's called an "Eskie Railroad," which is a group of volunteer drivers who will each drive a certain portion of the transport. (We always ask that you, as the adopter, help out by taking the final leg.) If I'm not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on me, you may have to make special arrangements so ERU can get me to you safely (for example, flying me to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive me to you). Also, please be aware that Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs. Thank you and WOOF!
