About Camper

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Rescue ID: 06-028
  • Housetrained: Yes
Hi, my name is Camper (you know, as in "I'm a real Happy Camper")! I'm a miniature or small standard-sized American Eskimo male, about 6 or 7 years YOUNG and 23 pounds in weight. I was found as a stray in Reading, PA, and I still have some roaming instinct in me, so you better keep a close eye on me and not let me run loose. Otherwise you'll spend a lot of time trying to catch me again!

I'm neutered, current on all my vaccinations, heartworm negative and on heartworm, flea and tick prevention. I'm also housebroken and crate-trained (I'll even go into my crate on my own). I know the "sit" command and how to walk on a leash, and I ride well in the car. I have a beautiful coat that will require grooming on a very regular basis, so my fur doesn't get all matted. You do want me always to look as handsome as possible, don't you? :o)

I get along just fine with cats and other dogs, and my foster mommy thinks I would do well with children over the age of 8. I tend to warm up to women more quickly than to men, but if you give me a little time to get to know your man, I'll be just fine with him also. I am a little possessive of my food and my toys, but not extremely so. I enjoy socializing with other dogs, and that got me into trouble at the shelter before I was rescued. You see, I was trying to be neighborly with the dog next to me and I stuck my nose into his cage to say hi. Well, he didn't like that at all and he almost bit the end of my nose off! OUCH!!! That really hurt, and now I have stitches in my nose and will probably have a permanent scar. But my foster mommy is taking good care of me to make sure everything heals alright.

I'm a happy, playful guy who likes to chase my tail and bark or growl at it. My foster mommy finds that SO comical, as I go round and round AND ROUND for the longest time trying to catch that darn old thing! HeHe! I also love to play with toys once I become comfortable in my surroundings. I'm not a high-energy dog for the most part; I'm really very mellow and laid back (unless I get loose outside, of course--then that's a totally different story).

I was probably abused in my former life, because I will cower if you approach me too quickly. However, I have no fear of traffic and I will run across the road in front of moving vehicles. For that reason (and because I just love to run), it's very important for me to be in a home with a secure fence that's high enough to keep me contained (at least 4 feet or even higher, if possible).

I'm VERY well behaved and I listen quite well--at least while I'm in the house! She has had no problems with me at all indoors, but if I get loose outdoors I won't listen or come to you or let you catch me. Despite that one thing, my foster mommy says I'm such a sweet dog, and very affectionate and snuggly.

My foster mommy says someone is going to scoop me up very quickly-will that someone be you? Wouldn't you love to have me in your life so I can show you how sweet and loving I am? I can't wait to be in my new forever home and have a second chance in life. But please hurry. I'm sitting here waiting just as patiently as I know how!

If you're interested in me and would like more information, please contact Wanda at: wanda@eskierescuersunited.org or feel free to e-mail my foster mommy directly at: Justus4250@aol.com . Better yet, you can go to our web site at: www.eskierescuersunited.org and fill out an adoption application for me!

There is an adoption fee required, and whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state. I'm in Carlisle, PA with my foster mommy, Gina.

To get me to you, we can do what's called an "Eskie Railroad," which is a group of volunteer drivers who will each drive a certain portion of the transport. (We always ask that you, as the adopter, help out by taking the final leg.) If I'm not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on me, you may have to make special arrangements so ERU can get me to you safely (for example, flying me to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive me to you). Also, please be aware that Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs.

Thank you and WOOF!
