Learn more about the American Eskimo Dog.
Woof! Woof! My name is Mystic! I'm a standard-sized American Eskimo female, about 1 to 1-1/2 years old and weighing 33 pounds. I was found as a stray working the local car wash and looking for food in the garbage--it was MOST undignified! A nice person saved me from a life of starvation and neglect and got me into foster care with Eskie Rescuers United. My foster mommy says I'm the goofiest looking Eskie she's ever seen. I have the typical white/biscuit-colored fur and the fluffy tail that curls over my back, but I have very short legs and a very long body! She thinks I resemble a Corgi in some ways because of my "unique" figure. I'm spayed, current on all my vaccinations, heartworm negative and on heartworm, flea and tick prevention. I figured out the housetraining thing very quickly, and as long as I'm supervised I do really well. But when you leave me alone, I would do better either being in my crate or confined to a laundry room or bathroom. That way I will continue to be a good girl when you're not home! I'm also working hard on my leash manners and other basic commands, since I didn't know any of that stuff before I got here. But I'm a smart girl and I'm learning fast, and if we go to obedience classes together, then we can bond even more! I get along well with most other dogs, but only if they're not mean ole bullies! Big dogs kind of scare me, so if you already have other dogs, I will do just fine with them as long as they are under 30 pounds. I also have to admit that I don't like cats. I like everyone (people, that is), but some men scare me, so it might take me a minute or two to stop barking at them. Also, I like most children, though the older and calmer ones are better with me, as the younger ones might get scared if I bark at them or zoom past them or accidentally push them around while playing (which I would never do intentionally!). What I lack in "Eskie beauty" I more than make up for with my fun, snazzy personality! I love to play and act all goofy! :o) I just love my new stuffy toys and my tennis balls. I roll around in the carpet and fling the toys high up into the air! Because I like to play chase in the yard, It's very important that my new home has a fenced-in yard. Zooming around is SO much fun, and you can't do that on a leash! I really like being fussed over and getting bathed and brushed. Even having my nails trimmed doesn't bother me. The first day my foster mommy got me she pulled hundreds of nasty ticks off me, and not once did I get upset or annoyed with her--not bad for a stray girl, huh? I have sparkly clean white teeth, so I'll proudly show off my trademark Eskie smile for you! I'm very active and playful, but the main thing about me is that I'm always happy, wagging my tail and smiling all the time. Life is so good here, with lots of love and yummy treats, but I really want a forever family I can call my very own. I ride great in the car, so all you need to do is fill out an application for me and I'll pack my favorite toys and be on my way to you! Wouldn't you love to have me in your home and give me a chance at a wonderful life? If you're interested in me and would like more information, please contact Kim at: kim@eskierescuersunited.org. Better yet, you can go to our web site at: www.eskierescuersunited.org and fill out an adoption application for me! There is an adoption fee required, and whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state. I'm in Bassett, VA with my foster mommy, Virginia. To get me to you, we can do what's called an "Eskie Railroad," which is a group of volunteer drivers who will each drive a certain portion of the transport. (We always ask that you, as the adopter, help out by taking the final leg.) If I'm not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on me, you may have to make special arrangements so ERU can get me to you safely (for example, flying me to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive me to you). Also, please be aware that Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs. Thank you and WOOF! and#9829;Mysticand#9829;
