Learn more about the American Eskimo Dog.
Hi, my name is Paco! I'm a standard-sized American Eskimo male, approximately 2 years old and weighing 29 pounds. I'm a very sweet, friendly and loving dog who wants to be with (and on) you all the time. If you're looking for a playful and fun-loving companion, then I'm your boy! I'm neutered, current on all my vaccinations, heartworm negative and on heartworm, flea and tick prevention. I do pretty well on a leash, but my foster mommy recommends keeping a harness on me as well as the usual collar, since I tend to pull a bit. (She's working very hard with me on my leash manners, and I'll keep you posted on how that's going.) I ride quite well in the car and enjoy accompanying you on your errands. I'm crate-trained (I stay in one when my foster mommy is at work), and I'm even starting to go in there all by myself. (It helps when someone puts a treat inside the crate, because then I'll go right in!) I'm pretty much completely housebroken. I had a few accidents when I first got here, but I'm doing great now! I've learned a new trick (and though I'm not perfect at it yet, I'm doing really well so far): my foster mommy has taught me to ring the bell when I have to go outside to go potty! How smart is that? My foster mommy is SO proud of me! :o) I used to cry when I had to go out, so if someone missed or ignored my pleas, that's when I had my "accidents." My new owner(s) should have the time to pay attention to me and work with me. I will need to be taken to obedience classes so I can become your perfect boy. I respond very well, because I just LOVE hearing my foster mommy telling me, "Good boy, Paco!" I know the "sit" command, and obedience training will help me master the rest of them. I'm a very active kind of guy, and I need to learn the proper and appropriate outlets to channel my energy. I would do great in agility classes. I have no problem jumping a baby gate, and when you throw a ball to me I can catch it in mid-air! It would be really great if my new home had a fenced-in yard, so I can run and romp and get plenty of good exercise. I get along great with the female dogs in my foster mommy's home, but not always so well with my foster brother, Budy (who is also posted here and available for adoption). We've called a sort of truce so we're getting along better, but my foster mommy has to keep an eye on us still. I'm probably too high-energy for cats around the house. Though there are none here, my foster mommy has bunny rabbits that I keep trying to get to (they look like they might make a pretty good meal! HeHe!), so I'd probably have a similar reaction to cats. I'm friendly to everyone who comes to visit--men, women, kids, even strangers. I'm very good with children who are 10 and older, and though I may be fine with the younger ones, I might be too "spunky" for them, since I love to jump and frolic so much. My foster mommy thinks I need either a very active family with kids who will wear me out, or a family with another playful dog (one I'll get along with, of course). Did I mention how much I love to play? It's my absolute favorite thing to do, especially right after I'm let out of my crate. If you have a toy or ball in your hand, then I'm right there, ready to play fetch. I can keep you entertained for hours at a time if you'll let me! I'm a very, very sweet boy who is SO eager to please. I will follow you around everywhere, because all I want is to be petted and hugged and loved on. That's not a bad thing, is it? I'm probably not the dog for a first-time owner, but I will make a fantastic pet for the right family! I do need an owner who will make the necessary commitment to work with me, train me and discipline me when necessary (in an appropriate, non-abusive manner). I'm waiting just as patiently as I know how for someone to come scoop me up and take me home with them. Are you the one for me? I sure hope so! If you're interested in me and would like more information, please contact Wanda at: wanda@eskierescuersunited.org or feel free to e-mail my foster mommy directly at: eskiefoster@verizon.net. Better yet, you can go to our web site at: www.eskierescuersunited.org and fill out an adoption application for me! Whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state. I'm in Edgewater, MD with my foster mommy, Cheryl. To get me to you, we can do what's called an "Eskie Railroad," which is a group of volunteer drivers who will each drive a certain portion of the transport. (We always ask that you, as the adopter, help out by taking the final leg.) If I'm not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on me, you may have to make special arrangements so ERU can get me to you safely (for example, flying me to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive me to you). There is a $150 adoption fee required, and please be aware that Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs. Thank you and WOOF! and#9829;Pacoand#9829;
