Learn more about the American Eskimo Dog.
Hi, my name is Tex! I got that name because I was rescued from a shelter in Marshall, TX. I'm a small standard-sized American Eskimo male, almost 2 years old and weighing 23 pounds, but I'm very underweight, so I need to put on some pounds. I was very scared when I was first rescued, but my foster mommy has been so wonderful to me, and I love her so much! I'm neutered and current on all my vaccinations, and I'm on flea and tick prevention. I do have this health problem at the moment that you need to know about, though-I'm heartworm positive, but those nice people at Eskie Rescuers United are making sure I'm getting treated for it, so I should be all better and healthy and available for adoption around Valentine's Day. (Wouldn't I make a great Valentine's present for your special someone?) I'm housebroken and leash-trained, but I'm not allowed to exert myself or get any real exercise until after my treatment is completed. You see, a lot of physical activity would cause those nasty heartworms to invade my heart even faster, and I could get very sick. So right now I'm taking it easy and working my wiles on my foster mommy, so she'll keep feeding me those yummy French fries that I love so much. (But then again, there isn't anything I don't like to eat, so I should put on that weight in no time!) I'm not crate-trained, but I do enjoy riding in the car, and I'm quite well-behaved. I'm such a good boy that my foster mommy says I don't even need any obedience training. I do have to own up to being very protective of my food and treats, but only when the other dogs come near. After all, I need as much food in me as possible, so why should I have to share it with my foster brothers and sisters? I also have to confess that I'm a real beggar for anything yummy to eat (and my foster mommy is a soft touch too! TeeHee!). She has to make sure she doesn't leave food on the counter, or else I'll try to help myself to it! I get along great with everyone-dogs, cats, children, adults, even strangers. I would be a very playful guy if I were allowed to be, and that will come in time. Meanwhile, I enjoy playing quietly with my toys-so far, ropes are my favorite! My foster mommy says I'm a real lover type and that I have such beautiful eyes (you know, all the better to bewitch you with!). I'm a very affectionate little guy who loves to snuggle with you on the couch. Though I dearly love my foster mommy, I can't wait till I have a forever home of my very own. I'm trying to be as patient as I can--can you be patient too, and wait until I'm all better and can be adopted? It won't be long, and then I'll be all yours! If you're interested in me and would like more information, please contact Allen at: allen@eskierescuersunited.org or feel free to e-mail my foster mommy directly at: bablinidiut@aol.com. You can also go to our web site at: www.eskierescuersunited.org and fill out an adoption application for me. There is an adoption fee required, and whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state. I'm in McMinnville, TN with my foster mommy, Beth. To get me to you, we can do what's called an "Eskie Railroad," which is a group of volunteer drivers who will each drive a certain portion of the transport. (We always ask that you, as the adopter, help out by taking the final leg.) If I'm not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on me, you may have to make special arrangements so ERU can get me to you safely (for example, flying me to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive me to you). Also, please be aware that Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs. Thank you and WOOF! Tex
