This is Damien ("D") and he lives in Pittsburgh, PA. Damien is a handsome, 4-year-old neutered male, weighing in at 26 pounds. He is an American Eskimo/Siberian Husky Mix. D gets along best with adults and other dogs (no cats or children).
D is an affectionate, loving boy who will bond with his new owner very quickly. He will cuddle with you as much as you'll let him, he loves pets on his head, and will regularly roll over for belly rubs. He loves to give many kisses!
D does have a bite history. Since living with his current owner, there were four situations in which D was guarding an item (his toy, tissue that he was playing with) and he bit a person. In all instances skin was broken, but they were not serious and no medical attention was necessary. D's owner has been able to modify his behavior and control these situations through management (e.g., making garbage cans inaccessible) and through positive reinforcement with treats and praise (e.g., practicing "drop it" and trading items for treats). He has made tons of progress with this quirk and will only get better with a patient and understanding owner. While D loves playing with other dogs in parks or day care, he does get nervous when he sees other dogs or people while he is on a leash. This quirk has been improved upon and managed but giving D lots of treats during walks, especially when he sees strangers.
D is very intelligent and has high energy. He is always willing to play a game of tug, fetch, or go on a nice walk. He loves going to doggy day care and seeing his doggy friends, and he is happiest when he has had plenty of activity. D would do best in a home with one adult or a couple who are not out of the house for regular, long periods of time. He is crate trained and is able to be home alone for limited periods of time, but he loves his people and wants to be with them as much as possible. He does not do great with too many new people, although once he gets to know you, he feels comfortable and will want pets. He is food motivated and will easily make friends with anyone who gives him treats.
D would love a home with someone who is patient and willing to work with him on his boundaries. D is protective of his toys sometimes and does not like the thought of sharing his food or treats. With a set routine and regular reinforcement of his good behaviors, D has what it takes to be a very good boy. For more information please contact Laura lauraefink@gmail.com
