Hi, my name's Jake. I haven't had such a great life up to now, but I sure am grateful to ERU for rescuing me. I pretty much spent most of my early life chained outdoors and neglected, then things got worse. I ended up on the run and was picked up and taken to a shelter. I was in pretty bad shape and had suffered some significant injuries to my hips and spine. While I was there they discovered that since no one took care of me I got something called heartworms... ugh! Well fortunately they decided to get me fixed up, and I am now totally free of heartworms. Things are different for me now that I have a foster home. They have other Eskies and a non-Eskie dog that I like to play with, and something called cats. I like them too.
I have a bit of a disability as a result of my injuries. My hips are fused to my spine, and some arthritis set in. Now I still love to run and play, but I am a bit slow to get up and down, and my jumping days are over. I take medication every day, and it helps me a lot. My foster mom also got me some special boots to wear, so I can get some good traction with my back feet. Unfortunately as my injuries healed it caused some scar tissue to build up so I have a bit of a leaking problem, but I wear a belly band so I won't make a mess in the house. I am house trained, I just can't control the leaking, and the medication the doctor tried did not help this, so I just wear my belly band proudly.
I know all this makes me sound like I'd be a lot of trouble, but my foster family says it's easy to make a little extra effort for me because I love them so much and bring so much joy and happiness to their home. A little disability doesn't mean I am not a wonderful dog, and my foster family says I make up for it with my wonderful loving personality.
If you ask me what I'm looking for in a home, I'd say a place where I can just be loved and cared for in a warm happy home like where I am now. I have lots of love to give, and I really like sharing it with my family. Boy, I could never have imagined once upon a time that I'd have such a wonderful life, and that people could be so nice.
More about Jake in OHGood with Dogs, Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids Special Needs: Jake's injuries have resulted in some orthopedic issues. His spine is fused to his hips and he has arthritis for which he takes daily medication. Scar tissue has built up causing Jake to leak urine, and he wears a belly band. Medication was ineffective for this issue. Whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state. |
