Chase came to us as an extremely unsocialized 1 year old puppy who had developed some fear issues. His behavior would seem to suggest that in his formative puppy period he had suffered lots of neglect, and some over correction. In spite of this neglect Chase still has that great Eskie spirit and really wanted to bond with people and be loved. Once he was given an opportunity to live in a stable home and taught some rules and manners he began to really bloom. Chase is all puppy and enjoys running, playing with his canine and human house mates, chasing his toys, and most of all snuggling with his family. He is really smart, and has learned the skills being taught in his obedience class very quickly. Because Chase is so smart he will do best in a home with an experienced Eskie family or a strong positive leader. Chase is being clicker trained and either a solid working knowledge of clicker training or a willingness to take a clicker class with him would be preferred. Forced based training would not be appropriate for Chase.
Chase is well socialized to other dogs, cats and people now. He has also done very well with well mannered kind children, but given his age and history would not be the best choice for a family with young children. Chase would be a perfect match for anyone wanting to be very active with their dog, and given his energy, drive, food/toy motivation and high level of intelligence would be perfect for someone who wanted to train him for agility. Chase would also enjoy being a member of a multi-dog house hold as he loves to run and play with his canine companions.
Chase is quickly making up for lost time, and is becoming a star in his obedience class. He has already mastered sit, down and off after just 3 classes. He is making great progress on heel, come, stay, got ya, and leave it. He is learning to greet new people he meets by sitting. He loves his toys, and we have resolved the typical puppy chewing issues by providing him with a good supply of raw bones to chew. As a result he is learning to chew his bones, and leave his family's stuff alone. Chase is very quick to learn new things, but as with all puppies he needs supervision in the house, so he has been crate trained (to "go crate") so that he can go to his crate when he is not being directly supervised by his family. Our strategy has been to help him avoid mistakes so he can be positively reinforced for good behavior. This is the best strategy to use with a pup who has become fearful of corrections. Chase is housebroken. He plays very well with other dogs at the dog park. Because of his puppy energy level he has been taught to run with a special dog leash attachment to a bicycle, since his foster family are a little too old to run with him. Giving Chase the daily exercise all puppies needs has really had a positive impact on his ability to settle down and just enjoy being with his family during quiet times.
Chase would be a wonderful addition to a family prepared to meet the needs of a young developing pup, and active enough to enjoy his puppy enthusiasm. Please contact Chase's foster mommy if you have any questions at kidsncanines2@yahoo.com

Whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state.
If I'm not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on me, you will have to make special arrangements so ERU can get me to you safely (for example, flying me to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive me to you). Note: We may ask that you to make a donation to cover transport costs if the distance is great and we have trouble finding transport drivers. There is an adoption fee required; and, please be aware, Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs.
