Ammo is a special-needs 10-year old standard American Eskimo. Life has not been easy for Ammo. Acquired as a pup, Ammo's parents separated when he was around 3 years old. Since that time he's gone from relatives' home to relatives' home until they were no longer able to care for him. Though Ammo has many of the attractive traits that make Eskies so appealing, the instability in his life has caused Ammo to become reserved and slow to trust new people. As if Ammo didn't have enough to deal with, he is diabetic, which has slightly impaired his eyesight.
Over the last few months Ammo has come out of his shell. When he first arrived he had no idea how to play, and didn't walk well on a leash. With patience and understanding Ammo is learning to be a dog, looking forward to his daily walks and play time with his favorite volunteer.
Ammo is altered, up to date on vaccinations and housetrained. He is an oversized standard Eskie, tall, and weighs around 35 pounds. He requires two insulin shots each day to control his diabetes. Ammo would flourish in a quiet, Eskie-experienced home, one that understands and appreciates the breed, and in particular Ammo's desire to bond with that special person. Due to his impaired eyesight and cautious nature Ammo needs a home without small children. He was never socialized with other dogs or cats and needs to be an only dog. Ammo is at Meriden Humane Society in Meriden, CT. For more information please contact his friend, Marlena, at shaggydog647@aol.com.
