Elvis is located in western MA
Elvis is an 18 month old, 25 pound American Eskimo dog in need of a new home. He is smart, energetic, and loving to those he knows well but is nervous around strangers. For the first 11 months of his life he lived a chaotic existence that was primarily spent in kennels. He lived in as many as four different homes during that time (some for a very short period). He also had no vet care.
Elvis has come a long way since that time. He has been treated for Lyme disease and is asymptomatic and a healthy dog who has had all his shots. He has been neutered and is now housebroken. A smart dog with good focus, Elvis knows basic obedience commands such as sit, down, stay, and come. He has some experience on leash and can be crated at night or when left alone. (He has the run of the house at home and causes no problems at night but he is crated when no one is home as he might chew on household items.)
Elvis could excel at rally or similar activities with the right trainer. He loves to hike in the woods or go for a ride in the car. His favorite snack is pig ears. He is quick to come to your side if you sneeze or cough or just don't feel well. He needs to be managed around strangers as he is highly reactive to people he does not know. He has had no experience with children and for that reason, he needs to go to a child-free home. He has some experience with other dogs. (He currently lives with his sister Izzy and he lived a few days a week for two months with a corgi and an Australian Shepherd belonging to a dog sitter and got along fine.) A yard is also highly desirable. He need an owner with time and inclination to train a dog who is loving but still struggling to overcome the deficits of a hard start in life. He is a beautiful dog both inside and out and will make a fine companion for the right person.
