Kaya is a very sweet and mellow dog who enjoys attention but is usually content to just hang out nearby the rest of the time. She is with several other dogs in her foster home and has had no problems with them. She wants to be close to her human at all times but isn't a velcro dog. Just laying on the floor nearby is fine--but being petted or getting treats is better.
Kaya is good in the home and loves to go for walks but was never taught not to tug on the leash. She's also very good on long drives. She did have some dental issues when she came to us but her teeth are in good shape now (although she did have to have some pulled). Since her mouth healed she has (re)discovered chew toys and she loves to lay down with a chew toy and work at it.
Kaya was hit by a car 4 years ago and her left rear hip was damaged. That doesn't really slow her down but it does still hurt her sometimes and you have to be very careful in how you pick her up. This isn't hard to do--it's just a matter of avoiding touching or straining that hip. Because of the hip she can't jump well so she can't get up on furniture without help. At her foster home she has steps to help her reach the sofa or the bed so that she can do this on her own.

Whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state.
If I'm not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on me, you will have to make special arrangements so ERU can get me to you safely (for example, flying me to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive me to you). Note: We may ask that you to make a donation to cover transport costs if the distance is great and we have trouble finding transport drivers. There is an adoption fee required; and, please be aware, Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs.
Eskie Rescuers United American Eskimo Dog Rescue, Inc. is an IRS-approved 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Please click the donation button below to make a tax-deductible donation through PayPal and help make a difference to even one American Eskimo dog!
