Dakota is a great American Eskimo who is about 3 years old. Dakota is a natural at retriving a ball that is thrown for him. He will play with you for hours without getting tired. He blended well with the other dogs we are fostering and is alert yet cautious with new things or people. It took him a while to know who we were and sometimes a bit of lingering hesitation comes over him but he usually gets over that fairly fast. During his life someone has grabbed him and hurt him because if you try to reach down to pet him he bares his teeth. He never lunges just only shows his teeth. I have been working with him on this and getting him to trust me has been a great help in curbing this behavior. He is not a fighter with the other dogs at all and reallty seems to be a fairly mellow dog except when you reach down too fast near him. I try to make sure that when I pet him I do it slowly and speak with him first to get him ready for the touching. He does not appear to be a biter...just a warning growl about not hurting him. As with all Eskies he is very smart and loved to be scratched and tickled. If you're interested in Dakota and would like more information, please contact Susan: mcavoy2@msn.com.
