Update 9/19/12:  Champ was seen by a cardiologist yesterday and had an echocardiogram.  The echo showed a congenital defect of the pulmonic valve that causes a narrowing of the outflow from the right ventricle.  This causes the walls to thicken and, if untreated, will ultimately result in heart failure.  The surgeron will perform balloon valvuloplasty on 10/12/12.  The cardiologist says that Champ has a 98% chance of having a normal life after the surgery.

Update 8/31/12:  Champ was neutered yesterday and everything went well.  He had x-rays and complete blood work and it was found that he has a heart condition called PDA (patent ductus arteriosus).  The doctor believes Champ could live a normal life with this condition, but we are researching options including surgery to repair the valve.

Hi everyone - I'm Champ!  I am a sweet, young, beautiful eskie boy.  When my foster mommy first met me she thought I looked like a gray fox I was so dirty.  You see I had been living outside on a chain.  Thankfully a local rescue group got involved and contacted ERU and asked them to take me.  I am so glad they did because I will never be chained again.  Now I look like an arctic fox because I got a bath.  That was a lot of fun for me!  I have had my preliminary vetting, heartworm/lyme/ehrlichia/anaplasmosis test (all negative) and vaccines and the doctor found I have a heart murmur.  That means I will be seeing a specialist for x-rays and blood work to make sure I can get neutered safely.  We are all hopeful that everything will be fine, I just won't be able to run any marathons.  I am a very good boy, I get along with all the doggies here, I am friendly and did I mention cute?  If you would like to meet me please e-mail my foster mommy Heidi at hortmeye@gmail.com

Special Needs: Champ has been diagnosed with pulmonic valve stenosis.

Whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state.

If I'm not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on me, you will have to make special arrangements so ERU can get me to you safely (for example, flying me to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive me to you). Note: We may ask that you to make a donation to cover transport costs if the distance is great and we have trouble finding transport drivers.

There is an adoption fee required; and, please be aware, Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs.
