About Leif!

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Rescue ID: 04-113
  • Housetrained: Yes
Hi, my name is Leif! My foster mommy thought it would be cute to name me after the Viking explorer, Leif Erickson, since I'm a Minnesota boy. I'm a 1-year old standard-sized (16.5 inches tall) American Eskimo boy who weighs about 25 pounds. (I could stand to gain about 5 pounds, so my nice foster mommy is feeding me lots of good nutritious food.) Don't you think I look just adorable?

I was recently neutered, am current on all my shots and am heartworm negative. I'm not on any heartworm prevention right now because it's not necessary in Minnesota this time of year (it's way too cold for those nasty mosquitoes!). I'm crate-trained and am very content to take naps in my crate. I am also housebroken and will let my foster mommy know I need to go out by sitting by the door! (She thinks I'm VERY smart!)

I'm a wonderfully sweet boy who loves people of any age. My foster mommy took me to meet her young nieces and nephew, and I was quite happy to take treats from them and let them pet me, though it did make me nervous when they tried to hug me. I get along very well with my foster mommy's other two dogs. We play tug-o-war with the toys, and wrestle and play chase with each other-it's soooo much fun! :o) My foster mommy says my new home REALLY needs to have a fenced-in yard, because the shelter I came from said I like to chase pretty much anything. The shelter also said I shouldn't live with cats, because I like to chase them too! I'm fairly quiet but will let you know if someone's at the door or close to the fence. (We Eskies are known for this "intruder alarm" kind of protectiveness!)

I LOVE to go for walks-I get SO excited when I see someone putting on his coat and shoes. I know how to sit, and I will come most of the time when called. I'm also a very polite beggar when my mommy is eating-I will take tiny treats from her fingers so gently that she can't even feel me do it! Considering that I'm still a young puppy, I'm pretty good at not chewing on things I'm not supposed to. However, I do forget sometimes and make mistakes, but if you make sure I have my dog toys and some chewies, I promise I'll try to do my best and only chew on those things! :o) My foster mommy is trying to break me of the habit of chewing (gently) on her fingers, because she says some folks might not like having dog slobber on their hands. Can you believe that?! HeHe!

Wouldn't you love to have me in your home and give me a chance to show you how sweet and wonderful I am? I know I'm waiting for my new forever family-will that be you? If you're interested in me, we can do what's called an "Eskie Railroad" if I'm not local to you. This is a group of volunteer drivers who will each drive a certain distance to get me to you! I'm in Two Harbors, Minnesota with my foster mommy, Angela. If you would like to know more about me, please send an e-mail right away!

Please contact Liz at: liz@eskierescuersunited.org for more information on me!

You can also go to our web site at: www.eskierescuersunited.org and fill out an adoption application for me!

Thank you and WOOF!

Leif!

Whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state.

If I'm not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on me, you will have to make special arrangements so ERU can get me to you safely (for example, flying me to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive me to you). Note: We may ask that you to make a donation to cover transport costs if the distance is great and we have trouble finding transport drivers.

There is an adoption fee required; and, please be aware, Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs.
