Woof! My name is Alas, but some folks call me Bear - you can call me anything because I can't hear. I will pay attention just to you and not my name. I am very attentive, so being deaf isn't so bad. I am learning hand signals from my foster parents and they can teach you ways to help me with my deafness. It would be better to be adopted in FL, so my foster parents can be there to show all my hand signals in person.
I am a confident dog and I'm not easily spooked or startled, so that is good -- because I can't hear you come in and when I open my eyes... wow there you are! Some dogs might get scared, but not me -- I just wag my tail and stand up because I'm so happy to see you. I do bark once in awhile, but I am learning a hand signal that means "be quiet" and so far I am a very good student. I'm only 6 years old but I'm listed in Seniors so I get extra attention for adoption! I'm neutered and up-to-date on all my vaccinations. I tested negative for heartworm and I'm on flea/tick preventative. I just had doggie dental so I sport a bright, white eskie smile! I am not destructive and I love to sleep in late when I'm allowed :o) I get along with all my doggie friends here and my former house had cats; they said I was very good with them. But my former owners neglected my ear infections for way too long and that is why I am deaf now -- how sad :o( . and then they took me to the pound, even worse! My foster mommy rescued me from the pound and she puts medicine in my ears and they are getting better very quickly, but she does not think my hearing will come back. My pictures are not so good because I was not feeling well and I was so sad -- once my ear fur grows back, I will have new snazzy pictures. I love getting baths and brushed and even having my nails trimmed isn't so bad. I even let them clean my ears without any fuss. I am such a good boy -- they told me I am a "keeper", but I can't hear them so they just give me lots of hugs and extra snuggles. Older children that are gentle and calm would be fine with me, but little ones that don't understand might scare me or hurt me. I walk real nice on leash and I am house trained. I don't need a crate -- those are for babies. I also love going for rides in the car, I look out the window and make people smile when they see me looking at them. Wouldn't you love to give a special boy like me a chance at a forever home? If you're interested in me and would like more information, please contact Kim at: kim@eskierescuersunited.org. Better yet, you can go to our web site at: www.eskierescuersunited.org and fill out an adoption application for me! There is an adoption fee required, and whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state. I'm in Palm Beach Gardens, FL with my foster parents, Jeff and Kim. To get me to you, we can do what's called an "Eskie Railroad," which is a group of volunteer drivers who will each drive a certain portion of the transport. (We always ask that you, as the adopter, help out by taking the final leg.) If I'm not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on me, you may have to make special arrangements so ERU can get me to you safely (for example, flying me to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive me to you). Also, please be aware that Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs. Thank you and WOOF! Alas!
