Learn more about the American Eskimo Dog.
Hi, my name is Junior! I'm a 6-year old standard-sized American Eskimo male who stands about 17 inches tall and weighs 33 pounds. I was terribly neglected in my previous life and my foster mommy had to shave me down, but you can see how thickly and beautifully my coat has grown back! I have really nice Eskie features and markings, with a very dark nose and that trademark Eskie smile! :o) I'm neutered, current on all my vaccinations, heartworm negative and on heartworm prevention. I'm also housebroken. My leash-walking skills still need work, since no one ever took time to teach me before (or even to spend any time with me). I'm so curious about the world around me that I tend to pull a bit trying to explore every new sight and smell, but with a little love, attention and training, I'll be your best walking partner in the world! I get along really well with girl dogs, but I take a bit more time to warm up to boy dogs. We don't know about cats since my foster mommy doesn't have any. In typical Eskie style, I take a little while to warm up to strangers and will alert you to "intruders," but once I get the okay from you that your guest is not an intruder I become very affectionate. I came to my foster mommy with a broken leg, and though my leg has now mended, I'm still a bit sensitive to it being touched. I would do better with older children, as small children might be too active and run into my leg. (In fact, rambunctious kids scare me, so I would prefer to be in a quieter home where I can feel safe and protected.) Because of my broken leg I can't jump (and probably never will be able to), but I can now run just fine! I really enjoy playing with my new rope toys. I never knew anything as fun as these existed before I came here! My favorite place to sleep is right next to my family. I want so much for my smiling face to be the first thing you see every morning, and also when you come home at night, greeting you at the door. I love being social, sitting by you and giving you lots of Eskie kisses. I like hearing my name and LOVE being petted and fussed over! Wouldn't you like to have me in your life and give me a chance at a wonderful life? I will make a great protector, loving friend, and your life-long companion. If you're interested in me and would like more information, please contact Kim at: kim@eskierescuersunited.org or feel free to e-mail my foster mommy directly at: ana@eskierescuersunited.org. Better yet, you can go to our web site at: www.eskierescuersunited.org and fill out an adoption application for me! There is an adoption fee required, and whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state. I'm in Crestview, FL (on the panhandle) with my foster mommy, Ana. To get me to you, we can do what's called an "Eskie Railroad," which is a group of volunteer drivers who will each drive a certain portion of the transport. (We always ask that you, as the adopter, help out by taking the final leg.) If I'm not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on me, you may have to make special arrangements so ERU can get me to you safely (for example, flying me to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive me to you). Also, please be aware that Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs. Thank you and Eskie kisses to you! and#9829;Juniorand#9829;
