Learn more about the American Eskimo Dog.
Hi, my name is Kirby! I'm a 10-month old miniature-sized American Eskimo male who stands 15 inches tall and weighs 16 pounds. (I need to gain about 5 pounds, as I'm pretty skinny.) My previous owner kept me chained up in a hot Florida garage where I had to lie in my own poop and pee! It was really awful, but my wonderful foster mommy and daddy have gotten me all cleaned up and I'm just as handsome as can be! I'm neutered, current on all my puppy vaccinations, heartworm negative and on heartworm, flea and tick prevention. I'm all about being a puppy, but I still need work on some things my former owner never bothered to teach me, like obedience and good manners. My new foster parents are working with me everyday though, so I can become properly socialized. I'm a very smart little guy and I'm quickly learning my potty training and my leash manners and not to jump up on people. I like riding in the car, but I would need to be crated or leash restrained until I learn how to settle down more. I really enjoy having other dogs around to play and romp with me--they're so much fun to chase around! :o) I'm not sure about kitty cats, but since I like to chase, they better be fast! (Squirrels and lizards are really fast, did you know that?) It would be great if my new home had a fenced-in yard so I could run around safely and burn off some of my puppy power! I'm wary around strangers and may bark when I first meet them, but I warm up quickly and become very friendly. I'm good with older children, maybe 8 years or older. Because I can be kind of hyper at times, and I tend to be protective of my bones and special treats, it would be best if my new home didn't have smaller kids who may not know how to act around me. I would never try to hurt anyone though, because all I want to do is be with my new forever family and play, play, PLAY! I love all the toys and chewies here at my foster home, because they keep me out of trouble! I need frequent walks to help me get better socialized, and being taken to obedience training will be extremely helpful, because I missed out on all those important lessons when I was younger. It will take a very special and patient family--ideally an experienced Eskie owner--to train me, but I'm very anxious to please and will do my best to become your perfect little boy! After such a rough beginning, I truly deserve a loving, nurturing home. I'm very sweet and affectionate and have LOTS of love to share. Won't you take me into your home and give me a chance at a wonderful life? I promise to keep you company and snuggle up with you and give you all my love. If you're interested in me, we can do what's called an "Eskie Railroad" if I'm not local to you. This is a group of volunteer drivers who will each drive a certain distance to get me to you! I'm in Palm Beach Gardens, FL with my foster mommy and daddy, Kim and Jeff. For more information on me, please contact Leah at: leah@eskierescuersunited.org or feel free to e-mail my foster mommy and daddy directly at: kim@eskierescuersunited.org. You can also go to our web site at: www.eskierescuersunited.org and fill out an adoption application for me! There is an adoption fee required to adopt me. Also, please be aware that Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its fosters as outdoor dogs. Thank you and WOOF! Kirby!
Eskie Rescuers United
|
Whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state.
If I'm not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on me, you will have to make special arrangements so ERU can get me to you safely (for example, flying me to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive me to you). Note: We may ask that you to make a donation to cover transport costs if the distance is great and we have trouble finding transport drivers.
There is an adoption fee required; and, please be aware, Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs.
