About Peyton

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Rescue ID: 05-193
  • Housetrained: Yes
Hi, my name is Peyton! I'm a 4-year old miniature-sized American Eskimo male who weighs 20 pounds. I was named for Peyton Manning (the Indianapolis Colts' quarterback) because my foster mommy says I have a cute little tail! ;o) I'm neutered, current on all my vaccinations and on flea and tick prevention.

I'm housebroken and leash- and crate-trained, and I ride well in the car too (especially if you hold me in your lap!). I understand the commands "leave it" and "off" and am working on "sit," but I wiggle so much that I haven't quite grasped that concept.

I get along well with other dogs, though I may try to dominate some of them. I also get along with cats, and I don't mind birds either. I've even met a horse and was okay with that. In fact, to prove that horses didn't bother me, I rolled in fresh horse manure! I sure smelled good after that! MmmMmm! So if you live on a farm, I'll bet I would fit right in with that kind of life. I'm friendly with strangers I meet on my walks, but my foster mommy thinks it would be best if I were in a home that did not have kids under the age of 7 or 8.

I'm very playful, and my favorite toy is an old dishrag! (My foster mommy can't figure out why, so it'll just remain my little secret! HeeHee!) I like unsalted crackers and I adore chicken breast. YUMMY! But if you don't want me to get your fingers when you give me a treat, you have to tell me to take it nicely--and I will! :o)

When I first came to my foster home I wouldn't even look at my foster mommy, probably because I didn't understand why I was here and was afraid. Now when I face stressful situations I go searching for her, so she can assure me everything's okay. She says I'm very much a mama's boy! I can jump like a deer but I don't challenge the fence around our yard. That's because I know what a good life I have here!

I'm very affectionate and love to snuggle with you. I LOVE belly rubs and I'll give you kisses until you think you're gonna drown in dog slobber! Like Linus in the comic strip, I have my favorite "blankie" which will go with me when I go to my new home (a day my foster mommy says she dreads). But she understands how important it is that I find a loving family of my own who will cherish me, take good care of me and let me love them back in return. Will that be you? I'm waiting as patiently as I can, but I sure hope you find me soon!

If you're interested in me and would like more information, please contact Liz at: liz@eskierescuersunited.org. You can also go to our web site at: www.eskierescuersunited.org and fill out an adoption application for me.

There is an adoption fee required, and whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state. I'm in Knoxville, TN with my foster mommy, Vicki.

To get me to you, we can do what's called an "Eskie Railroad," which is a group of volunteer drivers who will each drive a certain portion of the transport. (We always ask that you, as the adopter, help out by taking the final leg.) If I'm not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on me, you may have to make special arrangements so ERU can get me to you safely (for example, flying me to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive me to you). Also, please be aware that Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs.

Thank you and WOOF!

Peyton!
