Joseph is a dear, sweet, senior who was picked up as a stray on Long Island, NY in July 2014. He can be a wee bit tentative as he first meets a new person, but once comfortable, he loves to lean in for hugs and cuddles. He has a very sweet disposition.
Like like many senior dogs, he has some visual limitations and doesn't hear so well, but he quite happily follows me around the house, often alongside his favorite canine sister- they are my little white shadows. Even if I leave him sleeping on a dog bed in the livingroom, he manages to make his way down to the bedroom at night. I find him curled up, sleeping by my bedside every morning.
It seems that Joseph has a neurological condition that is affecting his mobility- sopme kind of neuropathy or myelopathy. It the kind of disorder that won't improve. Sadly, it is anticipated that his hindquarters will progressively weaken and he will eventually lose his ability to use his back legs at all. It has explained the trouble he has making it outside to do his business on a consistent basis.
For now he walks well enough and sometimes he even manages zoomies up and down the hallway or around the back yard. But, when standing or trying to eat, his legs give out. He does love to eat! And the good news is that he isn't in pain and is accepting his decline in function with grace.
Joseph is available for sponsorship and will be most appreciative or any support you can give him to cover his medical expenses.

Whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state.
If I'm not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on me, you will have to make special arrangements so ERU can get me to you safely (for example, flying me to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive me to you). Note: We may ask that you to make a donation to cover transport costs if the distance is great and we have trouble finding transport drivers. There is an adoption fee required; and, please be aware, Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs.
Eskie Rescuers United American Eskimo Dog Rescue, Inc. is an IRS-approved 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Please click the donation button below to make a tax-deductible donation through PayPal and help make a difference to even one American Eskimo dog!
