ABOUT DEWEYDewey is a sweetheart! He came to us from a shelter where he had been a staff favorite, and therefore, spent a lot of time hanging out with them at the front desk. He is an American Eskimo mix, but we aren't really sure what else is in his genetic makeup. (Some of our best guesses are Chow or Sharpei (see the dark tongue), some sort of herding breed, and probably a smaller or toy dog of some sort.) He's about 30 lbs now but is a little skinny; his ideal adult weight once he fills out and adds some muscle is going to be about 35 lbs or so.
Dewey is a little nervous when meeting new people. He expresses this uneasiness with a small grumble, but once he knows you are friendly, he warms up quickly. He was best friends with his foster mom in less than 10 minutes, wagging his tail and wriggling all over at the idea of being petted.. :-) He is GREAT with other dogs. Since arriving at his foster home, he has had a ball racing around the back yard with the dogs in residence. He barked at a cat who hiss at him, but does not go after it. He rides beautifully in the car & does not pull on leash. He is crate trained and appears to be house trained. So far, he has not responded to any of the usual obedience commands, so it looks like no one ever took the time to teach him, but he is one smart cookie and will learn fast. If you are interested in adopting Dewey, please visit our website at www.samrescue.com & download our adoption application. Print that out, fill it out, and mail it to the address listed & that will get the ball rolling.
