Hi there! My name is Charlie. I’m considered a senior citizen, and I’m looking for a retirement home to crash for a while. Could that be you?

So let me tell you a little about myself… once upon a time, I was a wandering, lost soul on the streets of Philadelphia. The dog catcher caught me, and brought me to Animal Control. Some wonderful rescue people shared my picture and story, and the folks at ERU swooped in to rescue me about an hour before my time was up.

When I was rescued, I was a sad sight. Matted, scared and underweight. Thanks to the ERU rescue family, I have been vetted, spiffed up, am gaining confidence, and am well on my way to a healthy weight.

Now, I’m in the market for a forever family to retire with. See, I’m a laid back, low key gentleman, and I’m just looking for someplace to hang my leash, and park my dog bed. I’ve been fully vetted, and am pretty healthy for a guy my age. As with anyone my age, my sight and hearing aren’t what they used to be, but once I know your home, you’d never know I had any limitations.

I would do best in a home with people who stick to a routine (for the most part) and have a fenced yard for me to romp in. My 2 favorite things to do are zoom around the yard for a bit, and nap in my crate. I live with 2 other dogs now, and would be fine in a home with other well behaved pets. I would also be happy to be your one and only! I haven’t been cat tested, but since I would neither really see nor hear them, my foster mom and dad think it would be fine.

Hi! Charlie’s foster mom here, with some things to add.

Charlie is such a gem. He is our first foster with vision/hearing issues, and we were a bit anxious about caring for him. People told us how easily he would adapt and settle in and we didn’t believe them- but they were right. Once we showed Charlie the lay of the land (inside and outside), and positioned his bed/crate/food dishes, he settled in like a champ. The only time he stumbles is when we are sloppy and leave items in his path! We believe he’s never lived indoors before, and so we have started as we would with a puppy on crate training, supervision, etc, and he has proven to be a quick study. Most of the time when we cant find him, it’s because he put himself down to nap in his crate. He is proving to be one of the easiest foster dogs we’ve had in 11+ years.

If you have a little extra love in your heart and space in your home for a guy who’s had a rough life and deserves his golden years to be golden, please consider opening your home to Charlie. If anyone deserves it, he sure does.

Charlie's story was so widspread and touched so many people that a local newspaper reached out and askedto feature his rescue story in their pets blog. you can read about it here: http://www.theintell.com/news/eskimo-dog-living-the-good-life-thanks-to-rescue/article_51027992-58fa-5a60-9a78-6bfee45bdb37.html

Charlie is also eligible for the "senior to senior" program, where ERU matches senior dogs with senior people for a reduced adoption fee: http://www.eskierescuers.org/info/display?PageID=1977

More about Charlie of PA

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

Special Needs: Charlie has some vision and hearing issues due to his age. He will need a securely fenced yard.

Whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state.

If I'm not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on me, you will have to make special arrangements so ERU can get me to you safely (for example, flying me to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive me to you). Note: We may ask that you to make a donation to cover transport costs if the distance is great and we have trouble finding transport drivers.

There is an adoption fee required; and, please be aware, Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs.

Eskie Rescuers United American Eskimo Dog Rescue, Inc. is an IRS-approved 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Please click the donation button below to make a tax-deductible donation through PayPal and help make a difference to even one American Eskimo dog!
