Sammy the Eskie is now living the "life of Reilly" in a community for seniors and the disabled with his adoptive Mom, Nola G. Not only is he dearly loved by his 'Mom' but the entire community has embraced him.
Read about Sammy and his story in the words of his adopter, Nola: A good Samaritan found Sammy wandering the streets of a town in PA in 2005. It was March, and quite cold. He contacted Eskie Rescuers United and the foster Mommy went to pick him up. In the meantime, I was looking for an Eskie through the rescue. What do you know, Sammy was picked for me and me for him. He is and was house trained. After a couple of weeks with his foster Mommy, my friends drove me to PA to pick him up, so that I could ride in the back seat with him and we could get to know each other. We live in Williamsburg, VA. When he first came here, he followed me all around the apartment, all the time. I thought this was a little unusual, because my apartment is so small you can practically see everything from one place. But it occurred to me that he must have been afraid I would leave him. It only took about a week and I suddenly noticed he was not following me around. He must have realized he was in his forever home with his forever Mommy. He loves to ride in the car, I take him to the groomers about once a month. He is now about 2 1/2 and not the least bit spoiled -- Yeah right!!! Sammy has brought so much joy to our lives here. The complex I live in is for the elderly and disabled. He has lots of Aunts and Uncles here. I'm in a power wheelchair and walk him about a mile everyday, weather permitting. Sometimes he is in such a hurry, he appears to be pulling me and one of the residents calls him the sled dog. I don't know what I ever did without him. He is so precious and loving, a real gift. Nola (& Sammy!) Whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state. |
