Hi, I’m Emma, and in settling into my foster home. I’m sort of shy, so I’m going to let my foster mom do the introductions. Emma’s Foster mom here: Emma is a very sweet little girl. She came to us through no fault of her own; Emma was living with a family and some kitties, when her owners were suddenly evicted. We understand her owners had some disabilities and, we believe, they were overwhelmed facing eviction, and they left Emma and her 3 kitty housemates to fend for themselves. After about a week, Animal Control was called in by a kind neighbor who noticed the tenants were gone, but knew there were animals inside. So Emma and her 3 kitty friends found themselves at the county shelter. Some ERU volunteers happened upon a posting asking for help for Emma - Emma was shutting down in the shelter environment and needed out, ASAP. ERU rescued Emma from the shelter and her new life began that night. We’ve had Emma in our care for a few weeks now. She’s made miraculous strides- from being terrified and withdrawn, to now seeking out attention and interactions with us. Emma is a tiny dainty girl (a miniature) at her ideal weight of about 16#. It’s clear to us that she was definitely someone’s beloved pet - she walks very well on a leash, takes treats gently, came to us housebroken (which is a miracle after time in a shelter environment), rides well in the car, is comfortable with being handled, and appears to have been professionally groomed at some point (when I brushed her, she fell asleep in the sun on the grooming table). Emma is spayed and fully vetted, and will have her teeth cleaned before going to her forever home. Emma is about 8 years old. The vet sees some signs of ‘old dog eyes’ coming on, but we have not noticed that slowing her down at all. She gets around our house and fenced yard with no problem. Her hearing appears to be fine, and her heart and lungs are clear and strong. Overall, Emma is in great health. Emma is looking for a forever home. She’s likely looking for a quieter, low activity home. She currently lives with 2 dogs, and is learning from them how to be a family/pack member. I believe she’d be fine with other calm dogs, or, as someone’s only companion. A fenced yard is not a requirement; she’d do well without a yard but with daily walks. Emma does have a bit of the stranger-danger barking behavior, which anyone familiar to eskies will easily recognize and manage. We are working on it with her, and she’s slowly improving as she gets more comfortable with us. Emma is located in the Philadelphia (PA) metro area, but does not necessarily have to be adopted locally. Please email me at fluffywhitedogs@yahoo.com if you are interesting in sharing your home with Emma.
