Bonnie
Back in April of 2008, I adopted an Eskie, Bonnie, from the ERU. Her foster mother was named Rebecca and lived in Spokane, WA. Truth be told, it was Bonnie who adopted me and these last ten years were truly joyous with her in my life. In December 2015 she was diagnosed with bladder cancer and only given 6 – 12 moths to live. Luckily for me, Washington State University has one of the best vet schools in the nation and one of the few oncology centers. I immediately got Bonnie into the oncology center and she went an astounding 27 months on chemo. Most of the times, you wouldn’t even know that she had cancer and life went on as normal. She was a trooper above and beyond. Sadly, this morning, I had to let her go as her quality of life was rapidly deteriorating these past six weeks......Robert Yarbrough, March 9, 2018

Bonnie Belle
BONNIE BELLE of FL was an owner surrender to a very high kill shelter. She was a joy, full of love an life and energy. Her fosters described her as "precious" and they adored her. She came down with the not unexpected kennel cough, as many dogs coming from this shelter get sick. But even on antibiotics, her condition deteriorated. She was switched to a stronger antibiotic, fluids, and her foster fed her Pedialyte and baby food with a syringe every few hours. We were hopeful she had turned the corner, but during the night she continued to get worse. She died from full blown pneumonia. RIP sweet girl and run zoomies with the angels. We loved you.......Mayli and Helen, September 22, 2016

Boo
Boo The Rescued Dog Who Rescued Me....... When I began searching the Eskie Rescue site I never would have imagined that I would be the one rescued. I originally wanted a toy or ..a miniature, but fell in love with a standard size named Milo After a long procedure, Milo became mine near the end of March in 2008. He was approximately two years old, believed to have been born in February 2006. My daughter and I traveled to Somerset to pick him up. The woman from the rescue league transported him to meet us. We brought him a green stuffed platypus that he had for his entire life. I still have it. He was a sweet dog from the beginning. He was named Milo and was found traveling loose with his brother, Otis. On the way home we suggested permanent names to him. Are you Gandalf, Casper, Snowball. No response. We stopped at a rest stop and I overheard a woman calling her son Boo. When I returned to the car, I asked him, do you want to be Boo? He responded positively, and Boo he became. It was the start of an interesting almost 12 years we would spend together. Because of Boo I walked more and got more exercise We had a cottage at the lake and he enjoyed running along the beach, sitting by the fire, and making friends with everyone. It has been sad to see most of his dog friends pass. He rescued a kitten from the woods behind our house. We named her Twilight and she was his baby. She was black and he was white. They looked like a ying-yang together. Following several very difficult surgeries I had he was always by my side. One time I was choking and he looked at me and launched himself into my stomach. The food dislodged. My dog that knew to do a Heimlich. He developed the loss of his back legs about 12 months ago and bravely motivated around. I got him a cart, but he still wanted to try to walk. He would get stuck in spots in the house and I would carry him back to me This dog was the love of my life. It has been so difficult without him. Rest in peace until we meet at the bridge. Play with your friends until I meet you.....Crystal Maynard, January 11, 2020

Boo Boo Buddy Brookman
August 27, 2010 I lost my senior boy. He was an ERU foster that I had for a couple years before officially adopting him. He was put in a shelter at the age of 12 when his family decided to move into an apartment that would not take dogs over 25lbs. If ERU had not pulled him he would never have lived this long due to his grumpy attitude. He lived to be 17 years old. He had Kidney failure, cushings disease, Arthritis, spinal issues and had a spinal stroke which paralyzed his back end. He was a good boy. I always called him my soldier boy. Whenever outside he would pace the fence line protecting his family. He would never sit, lay or roll around in the grass like his brothers and sisters did. He was determined to be the best little protector there was and he was good at it. He will be missed terribly by his mommy, daddy, and his siblings, Hailee, Faith, Alfie and Little Girl. He will forever be in our hearts and thought of everyday. He is at peace and with his grandparents guarding and protecting them. Rest in peace my little man till we meet again. I love you.

Buddy
One of the most rewarding things about being in rescue is seeing dogs that don't stand a chance in a shelter, getting saved. One of the hardest parts of rescue is also seeing those dogs pass some day. Yesterday, we lost "Buddy of GA". Although, we've rescued a couple of Buddys in GA, each one has been very unique. Buddy was rescued 3 years ago from a shelter. He was a very neglected senior, who had a forgiving heart and loved people very much. He was very well mannered and just loved to sit at your feet. He was such an easy going boy, that "Buddy" was really the only appropriate name for him. Buddy went to his ERU foster home, Frieda Durden, 3 years ago. We knew then that he had some medical issues and didn't stand much chance of adoption. But, that was ok, Frieda loved him very much and he became her trusted companion. He became her Buddy :-) Buddy remained with Frieda until yesterday, when the time had come to let him go. I know shes heartbroken about it. We all are. If you'd ever met him, you'd know what a special boy he was. Buddy, wherever you may be now...know you are loved. The ERU family will never forget you. You taught us a lesson about being brave, about forgiveness and living life. Rest in peace little Buddy.......Kim Stewart, June 20, 2016
