Penny
Penny was found as a stray on the streets of Ft. Lauderdale and Eskie Rescuers pulled her to safety. Sadly, Penny was euthanized this morning. Her foster, Helen, reported she was doing just great her first few days, but on Sunday she had a seizure/stroke (?), from which she couldn't recover. She couldn't walk, stand unassisted, eliminate, wasn't eating and couldn't drink water. Helen was with her yesterday afternoon and all night, trying to keep her hydrated with a syringe. We took her to the vet yesterday for blood work and then back today for maybe IV fluids and observation. But the vet said her blood work didn't look good (very elevated kidney), and what the shelter thought was a hernia, he didn't think so. He recommended euthanasia and Helen agreed - said if Penny were her personal dog, she would have done the same this morning. So very sad - but we have to be thankful she didn't die in the shelter, but instead had Helen's love helping her cross the bridge. And she enjoyed 2 VERY good days of love and care before her episode. Goodbye Penny, our very sweet girl. You were loved, you will be missed, and you will be greeted by many wonderful Eskie Rescuer friends at the bridge........September 15, 2016

Carl
Carl had his best day ever this morning. He ran, he barked, he laughed, he wagged his little shrimp tail at his best friend Rainee and his favorite kitty Butter. He ate his yummy favorite pre-breakfast snack and then breakfast. He had his favorite treats. He spent his time with what he never had before, his mommy and daddy and his big pack, knowing he was and always will be forever home. It was a great last day. A tumor on Carl's spleen ruptured this afternoon and he passed away quietly, painlessly and humanely in his mommy and daddy's arms at 3:03pm. We love you, Carl. Run free and wild with the angels. RIP Carl Barker.......August 24, 2016

Buddy
One of the most rewarding things about being in rescue is seeing dogs that don't stand a chance in a shelter, getting saved. One of the hardest parts of rescue is also seeing those dogs pass some day. Yesterday, we lost "Buddy of GA". Although, we've rescued a couple of Buddys in GA, each one has been very unique. Buddy was rescued 3 years ago from a shelter. He was a very neglected senior, who had a forgiving heart and loved people very much. He was very well mannered and just loved to sit at your feet. He was such an easy going boy, that "Buddy" was really the only appropriate name for him. Buddy went to his ERU foster home, Frieda Durden, 3 years ago. We knew then that he had some medical issues and didn't stand much chance of adoption. But, that was ok, Frieda loved him very much and he became her trusted companion. He became her Buddy :-) Buddy remained with Frieda until yesterday, when the time had come to let him go. I know shes heartbroken about it. We all are. If you'd ever met him, you'd know what a special boy he was. Buddy, wherever you may be now...know you are loved. The ERU family will never forget you. You taught us a lesson about being brave, about forgiveness and living life. Rest in peace little Buddy.......Kim Stewart, June 20, 2016

Toby Doby
With sadness in my heart and tears in my eyes as I write this my foster dog Toby Doby crossed over rainbow bridge tonite. He has been sick the past couple weeks and there was just to much going on he just could not fight it. He was only 9 years old. He came to me in September of 2014 with an attitude but I didn't care he was a great dog. Fly with the angels little man. Give Essie kisses to chip, Alfie, buddy, lucky, grandma and grandpa. This pic was taken this past April in ocean city where we walked the beach and the boardwalk and ate funnel cakes and boardwalk fries. Love u Toby.......Cheryl Brookman, June 6, 2016

D-O-G
It is with a heavy heart that I have to say D-O-G crossed the rainbow bridge today. He was a loveable, beautiful boy, that I was proud to give him almost a 1 1/2 years of love, and care. They help me as much as I help them, I call them my therapy dogs. I was with him until the end as there was no other place I would have wanted to be. He went peacefully, and is now pain free, and I like to imagine he is running, and playing with the others that crossed before him.......Riana Collins, May 25, 2016
