Boo Boo Buddy Brookman
August 27, 2010 I lost my senior boy. He was an ERU foster that I had for a couple years before officially adopting him. He was put in a shelter at the age of 12 when his family decided to move into an apartment that would not take dogs over 25lbs. If ERU had not pulled him he would never have lived this long due to his grumpy attitude. He lived to be 17 years old. He had Kidney failure, cushings disease, Arthritis, spinal issues and had a spinal stroke which paralyzed his back end. He was a good boy. I always called him my soldier boy. Whenever outside he would pace the fence line protecting his family. He would never sit, lay or roll around in the grass like his brothers and sisters did. He was determined to be the best little protector there was and he was good at it. He will be missed terribly by his mommy, daddy, and his siblings, Hailee, Faith, Alfie and Little Girl. He will forever be in our hearts and thought of everyday. He is at peace and with his grandparents guarding and protecting them. Rest in peace my little man till we meet again. I love you.

ELLA HENDRIX HEDDEN
ELLA HENDRIX HEDDEN Our sweet baby girl Ella earned her wings on July 4, 2010. A hidden heart problem took her from us way before her time. We adopted Ella from ERU and our connection with her was deep and immediate. Ella settled into our home very quickly and made herself queen of the estate. She followed her mommy everywhere. Every morning after daddy got up, Ella would sneak back upstairs and cuddle up next to her mommy. When she heard the food bag open, she would run down and eat her breakfast as quickly as possible and then would run back up to get a few last minute cuddles before her mommy went to work. Ella gave great kisses. (She traded kisses for scratches with her daddy.) She tried her best to keep squirrels off the bird feeder. She kept our UPS man on high alert. If you turned your head away for two seconds, she would eat french fries off your dinner plate. Ella loved baths (she liked to feel pretty) but she also could roll in the dirt with the best of them. She loved to prance through the neighborhood on our evening walks and greeted everyone with a sniff and a smile. When we came home from errands, she would stand on her hind legs and wrap her arms around us. She claimed much of the sofa, most of our bed and all of our hearts. Ella was special and she knew it. She loved life, loved being a dog and a daughter and she approached each moment with enthusiasm and curiosity. She was a sleek and gorgeous Eskie with movie star good looks and a personality to match. Ella was quite simply the most loving, affectionate and downright quirky creature we have ever known. It was a gift to know her and a privilege to be her mommy and daddy. We miss you and love you baby girl.

Quedo
I helped my foster dog Quedo travel to the Rainbow Bridge today, July 5th. Quedo came to me in July of 2008 when she was returned to Eskie Rescuers by her adopters. She was loved by them but they were going to be traveling a lot and could not be assured of places where she would be welcomed. I learned Quedo originally came into rescue after being found wandering the streets of Baltimore. She was definitely a streetwise dog as she scrounged the floor and yard constantly looking for food. I also learned to keep the garbage out of her reach. I discovered after almost losing her that she had Cushings. Many months of tests and medication adjustments finally got Quedo to a point she could enjoy life. She had been in such a state of agitation she would not let anyone touch her or other dogs near her. Quedo enjoyed her meals and demanded I change things up often to keep her interest. She loved to roam the yard sniffing and snuffing through the day. When she grew tired she would just plop down where she was until she was rested enough to get up and go again. Recently she could not get up and I would take a towel and wrap her up, cradling her like a baby and setting her on her spot in the bathroom. Quedo’s place in the house was in my bathroom where she liked to lay on the cool tile floor. I am going to miss stepping over and around her trying to get ready for work. I would straddle her while brushing my teeth and drip on her when stepping out of the shower but she would not move. I love you my dear baby girl, enjoy pain free romping in the fields until I arrive to walk with you across the bridge.

Jewel
Jewel never met a stranger and stole the heart of every person who got the pleasure of petting her. She came to ERU after an owner surrender, and her foster mom never understood why anyone would want to give up such a sweet dog. The only thing she ever asked for was a nice pet on the head, a good bowl of food, and lots of love. Jewel loved to go for walks, loved to kiss her foster brother A.J., and loved to take long naps while her tongue hung out. We never knew her exact age, but our best guess was somewhere around 14. Despite her love for life, Jewel suffered from severe cataracts, degenerative joint disease, hearing loss, periodontal disease, gastroenteritis, and possibly dementia. ERU and her foster mother did all they could to help ease the pain of her ailments, but she eventually suffered from a debilitating geriatric stroke and the decision was made to end her daily suffering and send her to the rainbow bridge. She held a very special place in her foster mom’s heart, and wishes she could have given her many more years of love. She went to the bridge on 5.4.2010 and is greatly missed.

Norik
We lost another one of our beautiful senior foster babies. Little Norik out here in So CA lost his battle with life. Little Norik, who was about 13 yrs old was rescued this past summer from one of the Los Angeles City shelters. The poor boy was in horrible condition with all kinds of ailments including a horrific skin condition. The foster we had lined up for him fell through at the last minute & a beautiful soul named Carolyn Doran stepped in to care for him. Carolyn devoted herself to his care during the few months she had him. He was much loved, cared for, given the best vet care possible & pampered as he deserved to be. We all struggled so hard to save him & will miss him terribly. Thank you Carolyn for taking Norik into your home & heart. He will always be with us. Selyne (ERU - So CA)
