Woof! My name is Marshie, (that's short for Marshmellow, but there is already a Marshmellow in our rescue so I get to be listed by my nickname). I am a beautiful, standard-size American Eskimo Dog. I was dropped off at a shelter in West Palm Beach because my owner was very ill and couldn't care for me any more. I am very loyal to my foster parents and I get along great with all people, but especially with men! I know how to bat my pretty white lashes to get what I want, like treats and love. :o)
I have such pretty white fur, and even though I'm not a little girl anymore, I still have as much energy as those younger "babes." I am very food-motivated and love my treats. The good news is I also love vegetables. Since my picture was taken I have lost a few pounds. I recently had a "doggie dental" and had to have some bad teeth removed. But now I have a nice bright smile, and you know, we Eskies are famous for our happy, smiling expressions! My foster mommy says my new family will need to brush my teeth regularly so I won't lose any more, but don't worry--I LIKE having my teeth brushed! :o) I'm very content going for walks, I sometimes pull if you let me but I will behave if you show me you are in charge of the walk. Relaxing around the house is fun too. I'm a good listener and will come in when I'm called. Like many Eskies, I will bark at anyone who comes into the house, but I wouldn't harm a fly. You see, I just have to do my Eskie duty and be on guard at all times to protect you! I love when people come over because I get more attention. I communicate with my foster parents by "talking" at them sometimes. That's how I ask to be petted and remind them it’s time to pay attention to me. I can make the funniest, goofiest noises, especially when I roll around on the carpet and stretch and really ham it up. It makes everyone around me laugh! I am definitely a "people person"--okay, I'm your typical Eskie "Velcro" dog who will follow you everywhere! HeHe! I get along with other dogs, as well as most cats. I would do great with all your company, and with children over the age of 5 or so. When I hear babies crying on television, I bark at the TV, so it might be better if my new home didn't have real babies, just in case. I love watching TV--my little head just follows all the action on the screen! My favorite show is "The Dog Whisperer," so now I'm trying to watch my manners, in case Caesar is in town. I get along with dogs, cats and children, however, it's best that I'm not placed in a home with small children under 5 due to my age. While I do like cats, I prefer that they are "dog savvy" cats. I have to fess up to a couple bad habits. One is trying to steal your food. (I told you I was food-motivated!) So when you're making a sandwich, you'd better keep an eye on it, because you can be sure I am! TeeHee! Another thing I like to do is raid the trash looking for goodies, so you'll have to be sure to have a dog-proof garbage can. But those are no big deal I am worth a little extra effort those issues take. Now, in the grand scheme of things, those things really aren't so bad. I mean, you may have someone like that in your home already--you know, like human kids! (Well, they might not go foraging through the trash...) So, are you ready to come and get me? I promise to be so sweet and loyal that you won't regret it for a moment. I'm such an easy dog to care for--not much work at all. I am SO excited at the thought of your welcoming me into your home and making me a part of your family! I would make a great companion for an senior person and am eligible to be adopted for a lower fee through Eskie Rescuers United’s “New Leash on Life” Senior program. To learn more, please visit our website: Senior Program. If you're interested in me and would like more information, please contact Kim and Jeff at: kim@eskierescuers.org. >. You can also visit our website and sign-up to fill out an adoption application and learn more about our adoption process. Whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I’m being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state. To get me to you, we can do what's called an "Eskie Railroad," which is a group of volunteer drivers who will each drive a certain portion of the transport. (We always ask that you, as the adopter, help out by taking the final leg.) If I’m not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on me, you may have to make special arrangements so ERU can get me to you safely (for example, flying me to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive me to you). There is a $150 adoption fee required, and please be aware that Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs. Lots of Eskie hugs and kisses! MARSHIE!
